WATER DEPARTMENT NEWS #1

The Town is pleased to announce that our Federal application for infrastructure funding through our Congressional delegation of Representative Sarah McBride, Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester and Senator Chris Coons was successful and the Town was awarded $1,200,000 towards the Town’s proposed new water tower. Coupled with $119,800 from the State of Delaware Community Redevelopment-Reinvestment Fund in FY2026, an additional $300,000 from the same fund in FY 2027, and $120,000 from the Town’s Transfer Tax account, we are only $260,000 shy of the needed $2,000,000 for the tower. Other revenue sources are being researched to fill the gap.

WATER DEPARTMENT NEWS #2

Last year, the Town, along with other municipalities, joined a class action suit against the manufacturers of PFAS chemicals (also known as forever chemicals). As part of that suit, the Town was required to undergo additional rigorous testing on our water supply to determine whether PFAS chemicals were present. The results from that testing showed absolutely no PFAS chemicals in our water supply. This does preclude us from receiving any damages; however, considering that some store-bought bottled water has been found to contain PFAS chemicals, it makes our results even more satisfying.
